Should I sign a settlement agreement?

What does the law say?

The law protects employees against involuntary settlement agreements through various rules. You always have the right to refuse an offered agreement. The law also gives you a reflection period of at least two weeks after you have signed, during which you can still cancel the agreement.

What should you look out for?

Pay close attention to what you are giving up by signing, such as the right to a procedure for unfair dismissal. Check if the financial compensation is fair and if all legal entitlements have been calculated correctly. Ensure that you are given sufficient time to study the agreement. Do not let yourself be pressured by statements like 'this offer expires soon'.
